About the Role – Engineering Operations Manager

Reporting to the Head of R&D Operations, the Engineering Operations Manager will be responsible for driving operational effectiveness across a growing engineering organization. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, customer delivery, and leadership. You will own and evolve engineering processes, tooling, metrics, and cross-functional alignment to ensure R&D teams operate efficiently, predictably, and at scale. This is a high-impact role for someone who combines operational rigor, program management strength, systems thinking, and a passion for improving how engineering organizations work.


Role & Responsibilities

Operational Excellence & Process Evolution

  • Own and continuously improve engineering workflows, rituals, and operational standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for engineering processes and best practices to ensure clarity and consistency across teams.
  • Ensure operational practices evolve as the organization scales.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Metrics, Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and report on key engineering performance indicators (e.g., cycle time, deployment frequency, AI tooling utilization).
  • Analyze bottlenecks and partner directly with Engineering Managers to implement scalable improvements.
  • Build and maintain internal dashboards for R&D and company leadership.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve engineering effectiveness through AI tooling and automation.

Tooling, Automation & AI Enablement

  • Manage engineering tooling and software stack.
  • Build and implement automations within ticketing and workflow systems.
  • Design and deploy AI agents to improve R&D productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate, procure, and manage vendors supporting engineering operations.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner with Product Operations to ensure quarterly and monthly R&D goals are visible and trackable.
  • Collaborate closely with Customer Delivery and other cross-functional teams to mitigate risk and maintain alignment.
  • Support resource planning and team structuring in partnership with engineering leadership.

Onboarding & Organizational Scaling

  • Coordinate onboarding and training processes for new engineers.
  • Ensure new team members ramp effectively within established standards and tools.
  • Support long-term capacity planning and organizational design as engineering scales.

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves

  • Strong experience in Engineering Operations, Program Management, or Technical Operations within a product-led organization.
  • Proven experience supporting scaling engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of engineering workflows, Agile methodologies, and performance metrics.
  • Experience building and maintaining operational dashboards and reporting to leadership.
  • Exposure to AI tooling and automation in engineering environments.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to influence without authority.
  • Highly detail-oriented, structured, and execution-driven.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience within healthcare or other regulated industries.
  • Experience working in high-growth SaaS environments.
  • Prior involvement in AI-driven workflow optimization or internal agent deployment.
  • Vendor evaluation and procurement experience.
  • Experience supporting R&D organizations of 50+ engineers.
