About the Project
We are working with a large, high-growth engineering organisation (100+ engineers) on a strategic, long-term mission: to build a conversational AI chatbot for healthcare that empowers patients and providers to interact seamlessly with clinical tools, workflows and care pathways. You’ll join the leadership team of this project and be responsible for ensuring the AI/agent layer and its business-value linkage are clearly defined, aligned with stakeholder needs, and executed with excellence.
Role and Responsibilities
- Define and own the AI strategy, roadmap and execution plan for the AI strategies of the company (leveraging LLMs, agent orchestration, tool invocation) in a regulated healthcare environment.
- Act as the bridge between business leaders, product stakeholders, clinical teams, and AI engineering/ML teams . You will be responsible for translating business goals into technical requirements and vice versa.
- Lead and manage a team of AI engineers, ML specialists, data scientists (or partner with them) to deliver production-grade AI/agent solutions integrated with healthcare workflows.
- Ensure that the chatbot’s AI logic, tool integrations (e.g., scheduling, medication management, triage), data flows, and model operations align with organisational priorities and deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Own stakeholder communication: articulate progress, risks, value, and roadblocks to senior business leadership and non-technical executives in extremely clean, professional English.
- Collaborate with compliance, legal, clinical operations to ensure healthcare standards (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA) and AI governance (bias mitigation, explainability, data privacy) are embedded in the product lifecycle.
- Drive best practices in AI engineering: model lifecycle management, deployment/inference optimisation, monitoring & observability, versioning, cost/performance trade-offs.
- Align with product & growth teams to define metrics for success (user engagement, task completion, tool invocation rate, cost savings, clinical impact) and use analytics to iterate and improve.
- Guide selection of vendor/platforms, infrastructure decisions, cross-team alignment (mobile, web, backend) to ensure the AI/agent layer scales as content/user volumes grow and usage spreads across multiple workflows.
- Mentor, coach and develop the AI team; foster an AI-literate culture within the organisation, and serve as a thought-leader for AI in healthcare within your company and externally.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Haves:
- Strong experience (5+ years) in AI/ML engineering or engineering leadership roles and direct responsibility for AI product delivery.
- Prior experience in managing AI/ML teams, leading from strategy into execution, and interacting with business stakeholders at senior levels.
- Excellent business-oriented mindset: the ability to translate technical AI work into business value and speak fluently in clean, professional English to non-technical executives.
- Exposure to healthcare or regulated industries: familiarity with healthcare workflows, data privacy, compliance/regulation (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) is highly preferred.
- Experience with end-to-end AI/agent solution delivery: from model/data pipelines, integration with services, deployment, monitoring, to optimization at scale.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams (engineering, product, clinical, operations) and drive complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience specifically with conversational AI/chatbots, multi-modal agents, or healthcare agent workflows (e.g., triage, scheduling, medication adherence).
- Prior experience in a large engineering organisation (100+ engineers) and working with scale, growth, cross-team coordination.
- Experience with vendor management, platform evaluation for AI/ML infrastructure, cost/performance optimisation in cloud or hybrid environments.
- Published work or leadership contributions in the AI/healthcare field or involvement in AI-governance/ethics initiatives
Why Join Us?
- You’ll be part of a major healthcare, AI initiative at a large engineering-driven company, where your leadership will shape how patients and providers interact with AI-powered workflows.
- This is a long-term role with high visibility. You’ll interact directly with senior leadership, and there is real opportunity to influence product, strategy and business impact.
- You’ll have the chance to build something meaningful at the intersection of AI, healthcare and user experience . This is a real opportunity to drive change in patient care.
- Flexible remote/hybrid working, in a dynamic environment that blends startup energy inside a robust engineering organisation.
